How Much Does Solar Cost in Jamaica? (2025 Guide)
If you’re tired of paying high JPS bills every month, you’ve probably started looking into solar. But one of the first questions everyone asks is: how much does it actually cost?
The honest answer is — it depends on your system size. But we can give you real numbers based on the hundreds of quotes and installations Ecopower Jamaica has completed across the island.
What Determines the Cost of a Solar System in Jamaica?
- System size (kW) — determined by how much electricity you use
- Battery capacity (kWh) — how many hours of backup power you need
- Number of solar panels — based on your roof space and energy goals
- Your location — transportation costs vary depending on distance from Ocho Rios
2025 Solar System Price Ranges (JMD)
Small System — 6kW + 10kWh Battery + 8 Panels
Ideal for: Small homes, apartments, low energy users
Estimated monthly production: 480 kWh
Approximate cost: $1,500,000 – $1,700,000 JMD
Medium System — 10kW + 20kWh Battery + 14–16 Panels
Ideal for: Average family home, small business
Estimated monthly production: 840–960 kWh

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to be connected to JPS to go solar?
No. Ecopower installs both grid-tied and fully off-grid systems. If you have JPS connection, a grid-tied system with battery backup is usually most cost-effective.
How long does installation take?
Most residential installations are completed in 1–2 days. Larger commercial projects may take 3–5 days.
Will my solar system work during a blackout?
Yes — if your system includes battery backup, you will have power during JPS outages. This is one of the biggest benefits for Jamaican homeowners.
What maintenance does a solar system need?
Very little. Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries are maintenance-free. Panels should be cleaned periodically. Ecopower recommends an annual system check.
Can I add more panels or batteries later?
Yes. Most hybrid inverter systems are expandable. If your energy needs grow, we can add capacity to your existing system.
