Getting Started
Most Jamaican properties are suitable for solar. The key factors are: roof size and orientation (south-facing is ideal), absence of heavy shading, and your current JPS bill size. A free site assessment from Ecopower Jamaica will confirm suitability and tell you exactly what system size makes sense for your property.
System size depends on your monthly electricity consumption. As a guide: if your JPS bill is under $20,000 JMD per month, a Starter system (6–8kW) is usually sufficient. For bills between $20,000 and $55,000 JMD, a Standard system (12kW) is recommended. For bills above $55,000 JMD or commercial properties, a Premium system (15–18kW) is likely needed. Ecopower Jamaica will analyse your JPS bills and design the right system during your free site assessment.
Solar panels on your roof convert sunlight into DC electricity. Your hybrid inverter converts this to AC electricity that powers your home or business. During the day, your panels power your property directly. Any surplus charges your battery bank. At night or during cloudy periods, your battery covers your consumption. If both the panels and battery are insufficient, the system draws from the JPS grid. For grid-tied systems, any excess electricity is fed back to JPS through the net billing programme.
Yes — as long as your system includes battery backup, which Ecopower Jamaica includes in all installations. When JPS power goes down, your inverter detects the outage and switches seamlessly to battery power, usually within a fraction of a second. Your lights, appliances and security systems continue to run without interruption.
Yes. Solar panels continue to generate electricity on cloudy or rainy days — just at reduced output. Jamaica’s climate means even overcast days produce useful solar generation. Your battery bank stores energy from sunny periods to cover you through less productive times. Ecopower Jamaica sizes your battery storage to handle Jamaica’s typical weather patterns.
Cost & Pricing
Solar system costs in Jamaica vary by size. Ecopower Jamaica’s current pricing: Starter System (6–8kW) from $1.2M to $1.5M JMD; Standard System (12kW) from $1.5M to $2.1M JMD; Premium System (15–18kW) from $2.2M to $2.8M JMD. All prices include equipment, installation, JPS application and commissioning. There are no hidden fees — the price in your quote is the price you pay. For a personalised price, request a free quote.
Most Ecopower Jamaica customers reduce their JPS bill by 70–90%. For example, David in St. Mary reduced his monthly bill from over $40,000 JMD to just $2,500 JMD. Robert, a small business owner, cut his electricity costs by over 85%. The exact saving depends on your system size, usage patterns and the amount of sunlight your property receives.
The typical payback period for a residential solar system in Jamaica is 3–6 years, depending on your system size and monthly savings. Commercial systems often pay back in 2–3 years. After payback, your system continues generating near-free electricity for a further 20+ years.
Very few. Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) batteries are maintenance-free. Solar panels require only occasional cleaning. Ecopower Jamaica recommends an annual system check to ensure everything is performing optimally. There are no monthly subscription fees or ongoing service costs unless you opt for a maintenance plan.
Yes. Ecopower Jamaica is an approved NHT installer, which means eligible NHT contributors can use their NHT loan to finance their solar system with little or no upfront cost. Other financing options include the Development Bank of Jamaica (DBJ) for businesses, commercial bank loans, credit unions, and JMMB personal loans. Learn more about NHT solar financing →
Installation & Process
The site assessment and quote process takes about 1–2 weeks. Once you confirm your order, equipment is typically ready within 1–2 weeks. The physical installation of a residential system is completed in 1–2 days. For grid-tied systems, JPS net billing approval takes a further 4–8 weeks — but your system is already working and saving you money during this period.
Very little. Ecopower Jamaica handles everything from site assessment through to commissioning. You will need to provide access to your roof and electrical distribution board. We handle all JPS paperwork for grid-tied systems. You do not need to be present for the entire installation but we will walk you through everything at handover.
Yes. For grid-tied and net billing systems, Ecopower Jamaica prepares and submits the full JPS application on your behalf. We handle all technical documentation, liaise with JPS during the approval process, and notify you when your system is approved for grid connection.
No. Ecopower Jamaica installs both grid-tied systems (connected to JPS) and fully off-grid systems. Off-grid systems are ideal for rural properties without JPS connection, or customers who want complete energy independence. We design standalone solar systems that provide reliable power 24/7 without any JPS connection.
Yes. Ecopower Jamaica has been installing solar systems since 2011. We are JPS approved, NHT approved, and fully compliant with all Jamaican electrical codes and safety standards. Our installation team holds the relevant certifications for solar PV installation in Jamaica.
Equipment & Performance
Ecopower Jamaica installs hybrid inverters from Deye, LuxPower, SRNE and Schneider — proven, reliable brands with strong track records in Jamaica’s climate. For battery storage, we exclusively use Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) batteries, which are maintenance-free, long-lasting and safe. Our solar panels are 600W+ monocrystalline panels with 25-year performance warranties.
All Ecopower Jamaica systems come with: 25-year performance warranty on solar panels; 5-year warranty on the inverter; 2-year standard warranty on batteries (5-year extended warranty available); and Ecopower Jamaica’s own installation labour warranty. All warranty documents are provided at handover.
Quality solar panels are designed to last 25–30 years. Performance gradually decreases over time — typically losing less than 0.5% efficiency per year. This means your panels will still be producing at over 87% of original capacity after 25 years. Jamaica’s climate is well-suited to solar, with high annual irradiance and relatively mild temperature variation.
Solar panels and mounting systems are rated for significant wind loads. For most tropical storms, no special preparation is needed. For major predicted hurricanes, your inverter and batteries are installed in protected locations and should be safe. If any component is damaged by an extreme weather event, Ecopower Jamaica can assess and repair it. We recommend adding your solar system to your home insurance policy.
Yes. All Ecopower Jamaica installations include setup of the manufacturer’s monitoring app on your smartphone. You can track real-time solar production, battery state, grid usage and estimated savings from anywhere. Ecopower Jamaica also sets this up and walks you through it at commissioning.
After Installation
Very little. LFP batteries are completely maintenance-free. Solar panels benefit from occasional cleaning to remove dust and debris — this can usually be done with a garden hose. Ecopower Jamaica recommends an annual system inspection to check connections, performance and safety. We service and maintain all systems we install, and can also service systems installed by other companies.
Contact Ecopower Jamaica directly. We service all systems we install and can usually respond quickly given our island-wide team. For equipment faults under warranty, we manage the claim process with the manufacturer on your behalf. Our team is based in Ocho Rios with technicians serving all parishes.
Yes. Most hybrid inverter systems are expandable. If your energy needs grow — you add an air conditioner, start a home business, or buy an electric vehicle — Ecopower Jamaica can add capacity to your existing system. We assess what is possible with your current inverter and roof space and provide options.
Yes. Solar installations are a recognised property value enhancement in Jamaica. A working solar system with battery backup is an attractive feature for buyers and tenants, particularly given rising JPS rates. The combination of immediate electricity savings and long-term system life makes solar a genuine asset.
